Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD)

The lymphatic system is closely linked with the cardiovascular system.

It is a network of tiny, thin capillaries and vessels that lie in the tissue spaces between the cells. It drains excess fluid from the tissues and returns that fluid to the heart. This helps to maintain blood volume and blood pressure and prevent oedema (swelling).

The lymphatic system therefore plays an important part in the body’s immune system. Lymph nodes are found throughout the body. Large clusters are situated in  the armpits, groin and neck areas. They help fight infection, generate antibodies and act as a filtration system for cell debris, waste, toxins and anything else in excess or considered harmful.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage is a very gentle form of oil free massage that uses circular rhythmic movements, light touch and cupping action to stimulate the flow of lymph around the body.

The benefits of Manual Lymphatic Drainage are:

Helps fight infection and speeds up healing.

Reduces oedema

Can improve skin texture by reducing swelling, puffiness and blotches.

Used post surgery to reduce swelling and flush out anesthesia.

Effective for pain relief, digestion and hormonal issues.

Relaxing, improves mood and helps with anxiety.

May improve energy levels.
